The Visitation Ministry
The purpose of the Visitation Ministry is to aid the clergy of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Walsingham in meeting the needs of parishioners who, due to illness or infirmity, are chronically unable to attend Mass and other parish functions. Visitation Ministry volunteers will provide social outreach to individuals isolated from church activities through such means as personal visits, phone calls, and cards. In this way, the sick or aged parishioners are assured that they have not been forgotten and are missed. In addition, they are provided with important social interaction in circumstances that are often quite lonely. Volunteers who are properly trained also will be able to bring the greatest good, Christ in the Eucharist, to individuals who would be unable to receive Him otherwise. All visits ideally will involve some spiritual communion through shared prayer and reading of Scripture. For those who would like to volunteer for the ministry but are unable to make personal visits, there will be opportunities to make phone calls and write cards.
If you have a compassionate heart and a desire to bring the love of Christ to those who are unable to be involved in parish life, we hope you will consider becoming a volunteer with The Visitation Ministry. Volunteers must be parishioners of Our Lady of Walsingham and committed to maintaining the privacy of those they visit.
